Using this site
Accessibility
Most people arranging care are doing it under pressure, and a good number of them are older than the average web designer. This site is built accordingly.
Draft, not yet in force. This text has not been reviewed by a
solicitor and must be before the site goes live. It is written to be a
realistic starting point rather than a placeholder, so a reviewer is editing
something rather than writing from scratch.
What we have done
- Body text is set at 17px rather than the usual 16px, and scales with your settings
- Text and background colours meet or exceed the WCAG AA contrast requirement, and body text is well past it
- Every interactive element has a visible focus outline, and none of them remove it
- Buttons and links are at least 44px in the smaller dimension
- The whole site works with a keyboard, including the navigation menus and the map
- Headings run in order, so screen reader users can navigate by structure
- Nothing important is signalled by colour alone
- Animation is minimal, and is switched off entirely if your system asks for reduced motion
- Pages work with JavaScript turned off, apart from the interactive map
- The site can be zoomed to 200% without anything being lost or needing sideways scrolling
What is not perfect
Being straight about this is more useful than a blanket claim of compliance:
- The map on the find care page is a visual tool. Every team it shows is also listed underneath it as ordinary text with an address and phone number, so no information is only available on the map.
- This site has been tested by its builders against the WCAG 2.2 AA criteria. It has not yet had an independent audit or been tested with real users of assistive technology. Both are worth doing.
If something does not work
Tell us and we will fix it. Email hello@hallows-care.com or call 01446 731285. It helps to know what you were trying to do, what page you were on and what you are using to browse, but tell us anyway even if you do not know any of that.
If you would rather not use the website at all, call us. Nothing on this site is the only way to do anything.
